The Cordillera Int’l Film Festival(CIFF) located in the beautiful region of Reno-Tahoe, Nevada is pleased to announce the highly-rated festival will return July 29- August 2, 2021 with a few new and exciting additions including 25K in prizes and a Grand Jury filled with Hollywood Icons, Emerging Voices and Industry Executives.

Here’s some exciting things to expect from us this year:

1st –  CIFF is returning to an in-person event! 

2nd – CIFF will be awarding cash prizes and production packages valued at over $25,000. With $6,500 in cash prizes going to our Focus on Inclusion categories dedicated to Female, Indigenous and LGTBQ filmmakers.

3rd – Our Grand Jury! With Australian Cinematographer and Academy Member, Peter Menzies, Jr., known for his diverse and critically acclaimed body of work which includes: A Time to Kill, Shooter, The Incredible Hulk, The General’s Daughter and Die Hard with a Vengeance, as Cordillera’s Chairman of the Board, we’ve assembled a who’s who of Hollywood, signing on as either Board Members or as part of the festival’s prestigious Grand Jury.

The impressive list of Oscar Award Winning and Nominated talent on our  2020 Grand Jury include:

  • Writer / Director Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy, Double Jeopardy)

  • Producer Hunt Lowry (Last of the Mohicans, Donnie Darko, A Walk to Remember)

  • Writer Brian Currie (Oscar Winning Screenplay - Green Book)

  • Director Benny Boom (All Eyez on Me)

  • Colorist Mitch Paulson (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Unbroken, Skyfall)

  • Art Director Derek Hill (Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, The Postman, Three Kings )

 

Another exciting addition to the Board is actor Kristoffer Polaha, known for his roles in Angel, North Shore, Mad Men, and DC’s highly anticipated Wonder Women 1984. Mr. Polaha will join the festival’s Future Filmmakers Foundation Board and Film Nevada Initiative.

 

4th – Panels, Filmmaker Q&As & Table Readings of our Finalist Screenplays! Our revered Grand Jury members will be participating in interactive panels, all filmmakers will get to participate in Q&A's after their screenings and all screenplay finalists will get to see a selection of their scripts brought to life by professional actors and directors at onone of our popular table readings.

 

At Cordillera, we love what we do and we can't wait to see what the 2021 season brings to us. We look forward to getting to know you and your projects and hope to celebrate your film in July!

Please note, in addition to the yearly festival, with your permission, films have an option to be screened again as part of the following special programs:

 

Movies in the Park - continuing a 26 year tradition as an Artown Legacy event, Cordillera is proud to present movies under the stars. Classics, Festival Favorites and the best in up-and-coming films from the Festival Circuit are seen by an audience of almost 2k, every Friday in July. 

Fright Night - Spend Halloween in Virginia City - named by USA Today as one of the nation's most haunted towns. We'll screen spooky short films at the infamous...and scary Piper's Opera House!

Narrative & Documentary Features
All Narrative Features, 41 minutes or longer, are invited to submit. Our programming encompasses a broad range of themes. We're looking for films that engage and entertain in ALL genres.

 

Narrative, Documentary, Music Videos & Animated Shorts
All Narrative Shorts, 40 minutes or less, are invited to submit along with all Music Videos that are 5 minutes or less. Our programming encompasses a broad range of themes. We're looking for films and music that engage and entertain in ALL genres.

 

Special Categories:

Female Filmmakers - Features & Shorts - $500 Cash Prize

All works entered must either be created with a women in a key creative role  (writer, producer, or director) or of interest to women.  Preference will be given to fictional and non-fictional stories that feature the everyday lives of women and feature three dimensional, well-formed female characters.

Native American / Indigenous Filmmakers - Features, Shorts & Screenplays - $500 Cash Prize

All works entered must either be created by artists that identify as Native American in a key creative role (writer, producer, or director) or contain a strong Native American theme. Preference will be given to fictional and non-fictional stories that feature the everyday lives of the Indigenous community and feature three dimensional, well-formed Native characters. 

LGBTQ+ Films & Filmmakers - Features & Shorts - $500 Cash Prize

All works entered must either be created by artists that identify as LGBTQ+ in a key creative role (writer, producer, or director) or contain a strong LGBTQ+ theme. Preference will be given to fictional and non-fictional stories that feature the everyday lives of the LGBTQ+ community and feature three dimensional, well-formed LGBTQ+ characters.

Future Filmmakers - Short Films

All Student Films, 20 minutes or less, are invited to submit their film at a discounted rate. To qualify as a Student Film, the submitted film must have been created while the film's director or directors were enrolled at a school, college, or university. Proof of enrollment, such a copy of a student I.D., must be sent to the festival by email. If the director is not enrolled at the time of submission, or has graduated, proof of past enrollment must be submitted.  

Nevada Short Filmmakers - Short Films
All Nevada Short Filmmakers with films, 30 minutes or less, are invited to submit their film. To qualify as a Nevada Filmmaker Short, the submitted film must have been created while the director or directors were residents of Nevada, or where production primarily took place in Nevada. Proof of residency, such as a copy of a driver's license, must be sent to the festival by email. 

Screenplays - Features and Shorts

All Screenplays for both Features and Shorts are invited to submit. Our programming encompasses a broad range of themes. We're looking for scripts that engage and entertain.  Selected Screenplays will have the opportunity to see a selection of their script brought to life during the Festival at a table reading featuring professional actors.
